Our commitment
Why this matters
The NHS has committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2040. Digital health platforms have a role to play in this transition — both by reducing the need for physical travel through remote information access and by minimising the energy consumption of digital infrastructure.
CancerPath supports this ambition by providing accessible cancer awareness information that reduces unnecessary GP visits for informational queries, while ensuring users are signposted to appropriate services when needed.
Our approach
- Efficient infrastructure: Cloud-hosted infrastructure with auto-scaling to match demand, reducing idle resource consumption.
- Optimised performance: Fast-loading pages with optimised images and minimal unnecessary scripts, reducing energy use per page view.
- Mobile-first delivery: Lightweight, responsive design that performs efficiently on lower-powered devices.
- Remote access: Reducing the need for in-person visits for informational queries, supporting carbon reduction in healthcare delivery.
Ongoing commitments
We are committed to continuously monitoring and reducing our carbon footprint through:
- Selecting cloud providers with credible renewable energy commitments.
- Regular performance audits to identify optimisation opportunities.
- Minimising data storage and processing to reduce energy consumption.
- Exploring carbon-aware computing practices as the platform scales.
